Returning to blogs
There was a time when I would sign up for every new social network and blogging service, to explore the landscape and see what tone it was settling on. Over time, Twitter undermined any blogging impulse by being the place for people who I followed for their writing. It went astray chasing engagement and the mainstream, because most people don't care about writing, but can be aroused to argue with bait.
Caring about writing is a minority interest, so it is always at tension with the goal of mass attention. The atproto model is one that may be able to resist the engagement debasement loop.
We can but try.
